Deep learning for gravitational wave forecasting of neutron star mergers

نویسندگان

چکیده

We introduce deep learning time-series forecasting for gravitational wave detection of binary neutron star mergers. This method enables the identification these signals in real advanced LIGO data up to 30 seconds before merger. When applied GW170817, our identifies presence this signal 10 novel approach requires a single GPU inference, and may be used as part an early warning system time-sensitive multi-messenger searches.

Modeling the Complete Gravitational Wave Spectrum of Neutron Star Mergers.

In the context of neutron star mergers, we study the gravitational wave spectrum of the merger remnant using numerical relativity simulations. Postmerger spectra are characterized by a main peak frequency f2 related to the particular structure and dynamics of the remnant hot hypermassive neutron star. We show that f(2) is correlated with the tidal coupling constant κ(2)^T that characterizes the...

Magnetized neutron-star mergers and gravitational-wave signals.

We investigate the influence of magnetic fields upon the dynamics of, and resulting gravitational waves from, a binary neutron-star merger in full general relativity coupled to ideal magnetohydrodynamics. We consider two merger scenarios: one where the stars have aligned poloidal magnetic fields and one without. Both mergers result in a strongly differentially rotating object. In comparison to ...

The gravitational wave ‘probability event horizon’ for double neutron star mergers

Gravitational waves generated by the final merger of double neutron star (DNS) binary systems are a key target for the gravitational wave (GW) interferometric detectors, such as LIGO, and the next generation detectors, Advanced LIGO. The cumulative GW signal from DNS mergers in interferometric data will manifest as ‘geometrical noise’: a non-continuous stochastic background with a unique statis...

Gravitational Radiation from Mergers of Black Hole–neutron Star Binaries

Angular momentum loss via the emission of gravitational waves must eventually drive compact binaries containing black holes and/or neutron stars to coalesce. The resulting events are primary candidate sources for detectors such as VIRGO and LIGO. We present calculations of gravitational radiation waveforms and luminosities for the coalescence of a black hole-neutron star binary, performed in th...
